Port de Sóller is the easiest way to hit the Tramuntana mood without lacing hiking boots. The wooden Tren de Sóller runs since 1912 through tunnels and orange groves from Palma to Sóller — one hour, thirteen tunnels, the train is actually made of wood. In Sóller you switch to the old tram which rattles five kilometers down to the harbor. Down there is the bay, calm water, a few boats, restaurants in the second row. Evenings, walk up to Cap Gros lighthouse on the Cami des Far, twenty minutes, view back across the bay when the sun is gone. Not a secret tip anymore, but it still works every time.
