Robert Graves bought the plot in 1932 and called the house Ca n'Alluny — "the faraway house". He lived here on and off until his death in 1985, writing I, Claudius and most of his later poems in the front room. The house opened as a museum in 2006 after Beryl Graves died and the Balearic government bought it. Walking through it is strange. The kitchen has the original tiles. His desk has his pens. The library has his books, in the order he kept them. The garden was replanted to its 1930s layout — lemon trees, a stone bench, the view down to the sea. It's ten minutes' walk uphill from the centre of Deià. Allow an hour. Bring shade — the garden has none in summer.
