Mirador de Ses Animes (Torre del Verger)

The Torre del Verger sits on a cliff above Banyalbufar at 250 meters. It was built in 1579 to spot Turkish pirate ships, sentries lit grass in a wooden lantern and passed smoke signals to the next tower along the coast. The Balearic government restored it in 1995. Today it is a stop on the Ma-10 road. Park on the small lay-by, walk five minutes to the tower, climb a short stone stair to the top platform. The view runs along the rocky west coast in both directions. Sunset is the busy hour, coaches stop, photographers crowd the platform. Come at dawn or mid-morning instead. The wind is constant up here. There is no cafe, no toilet, no shade. Just the tower and the sea.
