Binissalem is the heart of the Mallorcan wine country, DO Binissalem covers Manto Negro and Callet reds, plus whites and roses from the same plain. The Festa des Vermar marks the end of the harvest. It started in the 1960s and now runs almost three weeks in late September. The two weekends in the middle are the loud ones. Saturday lunch begins with the proclamation and the grape-throwing battle in the streets, wear nothing white, bring goggles. Then the popular meal, fideus de vermar, eaten communally. Sunday is grape-stomping in front of the church while the harvest songs go on. The third weekend climaxes with the float parade and the Fira del Vi, where the local bodegas pour their DO wines under tents on the main square.
