The Miró Foundation occupies four buildings on a hillside in Cala Major — Miró's old studios Sert and Son Boter, plus a 1992 exhibition hall by Rafael Moneo. The Sert studio is the one to see first. Built by Josep Lluís Sert in the 1950s, it still has paint on the floor where Miró worked. Brushes, mixed pigments, half-finished canvases left as they were when he died in 1983. Around 6,000 works in the foundation, donated by Miró and his wife Pilar. The Moneo building handles the rotating shows and feels almost severe — concrete, water, north light. Bus 3 from Plaça Espanya gets you there in twenty minutes. Closed Mondays. Two hours, more if you come for the studio alone.
