If you want to visit a stalactite cave with kids on Mallorca, the eastern option is between Coves del Drac (1500 seats per concert show, tour-bus battles) and the much quieter Coves dels Hams right next to it. Both are near Porto Cristo and about 10 million years old, with stalactites and stalagmites shaped by water over millennia.
The Hams cave works well for families. The actual cave walk is about 60 minutes through three sections: first the „Round Cave“ with a botanical garden and free-flying birds, then the classic stalactite cave with lit rock formations, finally the „Blue Cave“ with a light show and a short classical concert above the underground lake. The path is about 850 m long, well lit, with stairs and ramps (not stroller-friendly but doable with a baby carrier). Temperature inside constant 20 °C, pleasantly cool in summer, no draft in winter.
The name „Hams“ is Mallorcan for fish hook, the rock formations look like bent hooks. Hence the misleading German translation „Schinkenhöhlen“ (ham=Schinken in English, wrong translation by online tours).
Prices as of 2026: adults 16-17 EUR, kids 3-12 11 EUR, under 3 free. Buy tickets online in advance, especially on rainy days. There are combo tickets with Dinosaurland Mallorca (dinosaur park next door, more for older kids), and half-day tours from south or north with bus transfer (~44 EUR).
Getting there: Ctra. Ma-4020 Manacor, Porto Cristo Km 11, 07680 Porto Cristo. Free parking on site. By bus complicated: line 401 from Cala Millor / Sa Coma to Porto Cristo, then 15-20 min on foot or taxi. Without a rental car a guided half-day tour is the easier route.
Combine: cave in the morning, then lunch in Porto Cristo (small fishing port, lots of harbour-front restaurants). On rainy days pair with the Majorica pearl factories in Manacor (15 min drive), also indoor.
