Sineu is the oldest weekly market on the island and one of the few that has not converted to tourists. Wednesdays from seven in the morning the Plaça des Mercadal becomes the meeting point for all farmers from the interior, real sheep, real piglets, olive saplings, hanging bananas, cheese in wax. Next to it the vegetable hall (almonds, carob, tomatoes by variety). By eleven the market is over, stall owners drive home. Tip: arrive at eight, park 500 meters outside, first coffee at Cafe de la Plaça, then two hours time. For day trippers with a car Sineu is also the anchor for interior tours (Muro, Santa Margalida, Petra further east).
