Sa Pobla on the night of January 16. Bonfires in every square, dimonis in horned masks moving through the crowd, the smell of roast eel and butifarró from the grills. Animal blessings the next morning, more measured, families lining up with dogs and horses. The festival predates the village's modern shape by centuries, older than most of the buildings around it. Cold, loud, smoky. If you come, bring a jacket that you do not mind smelling of fire for a week.
