The Romans founded Pollentia in 123 BC, two kilometres south of what is now Alcúdia. The town was sacked, rebuilt, sacked again, and quietly faded after the third century. What's left is a forum, a residential block called Sa Portella, and a small theatre. The Museu Monogràfic de Pollentia in the old town houses the finds, Roman bronzes, oil lamps, glass, inscriptions, the bust of an emperor whose name nobody is sure of. The site and the museum work as one ticket. Walk the ruins first, read the museum after. The theatre is the easiest piece to read, semicircular benches cut into rock, looking towards the sea. Closed Mondays. Two hours covers both. Combine with Alcúdia's medieval wall.
