Sundays in Pollença belong to the market. Three hundred stalls spread from Plaça Major down Via Pollentia and through the side streets — produce, cheese, olives, leather, cheap clothes, the usual mix. Locals come for the food end, tourists for everything else. Get there before nine if you want a coffee on the square without queueing. By eleven it is shoulder-to-shoulder. Done by 1:30. The town empties for lunch and the steps of Calvari are quiet again.
