Sundays in Pollença belong to the market. Three hundred stalls spread from Plaça Major down Via Pollentia and through the side streets, produce, cheese, olives, leather, cheap clothes, the usual mix. Locals come for the food end, tourists for everything else. Get there before nine if you want a coffee on the square without queueing. By eleven it is shoulder-to-shoulder. Done by 1:30. The town empties for lunch and the steps of Calvari are quiet again.
