The Ermita de la Victòria sits seven kilometers outside Alcúdia on a wooded peninsula between two bays, the Pollença one and the Alcúdia one. The church dates from 1679, built like a small fortress because pirates used to land here. Today most people drive up for the view, the terrace at the restaurant looks straight out at Cap de Formentor and the water. The real experience though is the trail behind it. From the parking lot at the hermitage a path climbs over the Coll des Pedregaret up to the Talaia d'Alcúdia, at four hundred and forty-six meters the highest point of the peninsula, there and back a good two hours, proper shoes needed, the upper part is rocky. At the top the view wraps over both bays at once. If you want it shorter, take the turnoff to Penya Roja, a narrow rock path partly secured with chains. Avoid midday in summer, almost no shade.
